Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the new school year!  It is with optimism and gratitude that I welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year.  I am optimistic that our school year will be safe, caring, and engaging.  I am grateful as we will see most learners in schools and engaged in learning.

On August 24, Education Minister Jennifer Whiteside and Dr. Bonnie Henry announced B.C. K-12 students will return to school for full time, in person instruction in September. Updated COVID-19 guidelines for K-12 schools were released from the Ministry of Education, as guided by the Ministry of Health.  Masks will also continue to be required in all indoor spaces for all K-12 staff, visitors and students in grades 4 to 12 in schools and on school buses.

There will be continued emphasis on health measures such as: daily health checks, staying home when sick, hand washing, daily cleaning and disinfecting protocols.  Our plans and guidelines will be updated and communicated to parents, students, and staff next week.

We understand that there may be individuals (students, parents, guardians, employees) who are anxious at the thought of returning to school in September.  This is to be expected during a global pandemic.  Whether or not your child attended school last year in Coast Mountains School District 82, you can rest assured that students will be welcomed and accepted at their schools regardless of where they might be at in their learning.  We welcome children to school and will facilitate their growth along the continuum of learning.  We will meet your child where they are at in their learning.

Please visit our school district’s website for helpful “return-to-school after COVID” tips for parents and guardians.

Parents can expect that schools will be focussing on individual students realizing their potential in an environment that is safe, culturally aware, and respectful and welcoming of diversity.

If you have questions or you require further information, please email covid@cmsd.bc.ca or call (250) 638-4401 or 1-855-635-4931, Local 4401.

We look forward to welcoming your children back to our schools on September 7.

Sincerely,
Janet Meyer, Superintendent of Schools
